Lieutenant Fire Helmet Shield
Handcrafted leather LT shields built for the firefighters running the rig.
Lieutenant is the first step into the officer ranks, and the shield should look the part. Every lieutenant shield we make is hand-cut and hand-lettered from premium 9oz vegetable-tanned leather — the same construction we put into chief shields, just dressed for the LT spot.
Helmet Color & Tradition
In most U.S. departments, lieutenants wear a red helmet (the company officer color, shared with captains). The shield typically carries the lieutenant's name, company assignment, and a 'LT' or 'LIEUTENANT' designation. Officer shields traditionally use gold lettering.

Frequently Asked Questions
What goes on a lieutenant's shield?
Most LT shields show department name on the top rocker, the firefighter's last name on the bottom rocker, and a center designation that's either the company number (Engine 7) or the rank ('LT'). Some lieutenants prefer rank front-and-center; others want the company unit. Both are traditional.
Should a lieutenant shield use gold lettering?
Gold lettering is the traditional officer color in most U.S. departments, and many lieutenants switch from white/silver to gold lettering as soon as they pin on. It's not required by NFPA, but it's a long-standing visual cue for officer rank.
Can you make the shield match the rest of the company?
Yes — we keep layout templates, lettering style, and color matched across orders. Send us a reference shield from your company and we'll build the LT shield to match.
How fast can I get a shield for a promotion ceremony?
Standard turnaround is 5-7 business days. For ceremonies on a tight deadline we offer rush production with a 5-day guarantee — just let us know your date when you order.
