Add some handcrafted firefighter gear!

Father's Day Gifts for Firefighter Dads

Custom leather gifts a firefighter dad actually uses. Not a tchotchke, not a novelty mug — real gear, made by a working firefighter, built to last a career.

Every June, firefighter dads get the same handful of novelty gifts: the Amazon t-shirt with the Maltese cross on it, the plastic badge from the big-box store, the mug that says “World's Best Firefighter Dad.” They say thank you, they wear it to mow the lawn once, and the gift ends up in a drawer.

A real firefighter Father's Day gift is something that shows up at work. A leather helmet shield with his name and “DAD” on the rocker. A glove strap stamped with his kids' initials — the one he actually uses when he gloves up at 0300 on a structure fire. A proper leather nameplate for his firehouse locker. These are the gifts that get seen by his crew, that he still owns in twenty years, that actually mean something in the fire service.

Every piece in our shop is handcrafted in Kansas City by Brian Williams, a 25-year captain at KCKFD. He made the first FHS glove strap for his own crew in 2013. Every gift that ships out of our shop is built with the same scrutiny he applies to his own gear.

Father's Day Gift FAQ

When should I order a Father's Day gift for a firefighter?

+

Father's Day is the third Sunday in June. Order by early May to allow for production (5-7 business days) and shipping. Rush orders with a 5-day guarantee are available through the end of May, but the earlier you order, the less stress on everyone. For custom shields with 'DAD' rocker text or personalized artwork, give us extra runway if you can.

What's the best gift for a firefighter dad?

+

If he's still on the job, a custom helmet shield with 'DAD' rocker text is the move — he'll actually wear it. If he's retired, a display shield with his years of service is the keepsake. For off-duty use, a leather glove strap with the kids' names stamped on it, a custom radio strap, or a locker nameplate all work. The test: does the item pass the 'will he still own this in 10 years' bar? Our stuff does.

Can I put my kids' names on a shield or glove strap?

+

Yes, absolutely. We stamp custom names on everything — shields, glove straps, radio straps, name tags. Most firefighter dads get their kids' first names or initials on the inside of the glove strap (so they see it every time they glove up) or the bottom rocker of the shield.

What if I don't know his helmet brand?

+

Order the 6" size — it fits the vast majority of modern fire helmets (Cairns, MSA, Phoenix TL-2, Bullard, Morning Pride). If he runs a traditional leather Cairns N6A Leatherhead, he'll want the 6.25" or 6.75" — text us a photo of his helmet and we'll tell you which one.

Is there a gift for him if he's retired?

+

Yes — a retirement display shield is the centerpiece of most firefighter retirement gifts. Order with his years of service, final rank, and the departments he worked. We can also do a framed shadow-box presentation with the shield, his badge, and a plaque. See our retirement shields page for details.
